2017 Tuscarora Environment Summer Internships

  

 

 


 HIGH SCHOOL INTERNSHIPS

Our Office is now accepting applications for one (1) high school summer intern open to students entering the 10th grade in fall 2017 and older. The deadline for applications to the TEP office is 4pm, Friday, June 9, 2017.

 

We will have one (1) high school position available to start this summer and will go for approximately 30 hour/week for 9-10 weeks, starting Monday, June 26, 2017. Some of the projects available this summer to the students are:

  • Plum Pox Virus
  • Tuscarora Corn project
  • Trees of Skaru:re inventory
  • Forest Pest education
  • cultural inventory and more

 

Working papers are required for students under 16 years of age. The student is required to get to and from work, and if travel is needed during work hours the office staff will provide the transportation.

Qualified applicants should possess an interest in Haudenosaunee environmental issues; capacity to work outside in all weather conditions; and a willingness to work with a good mind and positive effort.

 

To apply we are asking for a written letter (typed, and if emailed in a Microsoft Word .doc file) stating why they are a good candidate for summer employment with the Tuscarora Environment Office. At the top of the letter you are required to include:

  • first and last name;
  • home address;
  • phone number (cell and home if available);
  • grade you will be in the Fall 2017;
  • and email address (if available.)

Not required but you can include:

  • past work experiences,
  • former employer information,
  • and/or resume.

 COLLEGE INTERNSHIPS

The Tuscarora Environment Program (TEP), a subsidiary of the Haudenosaunee Environmental Task Force (HETF),  is now accepting applications for one (1) paid summer internships in the area of forest Pest Detection Survey.

The internships will start June 5, 2017 and continue for 9-10 weeks. Work will be during our typical business hours, Mon-Fri. In addition, we might require you to do some travel and work weekends, with ample notification. The intern will also be asked to assist in cultural restoration projects as needed. If the applicant is not in college/university, then they must have graduated from college/university in order to apply. We will give preference to Tuscarora/Haudenosaunee/Native American applicants who have a general knowledge of biology and should posses the following qualities:

· An interest in Haudenosaunee environmental issues;

· Good oral, written, and communication/presentation skills;

· Moderate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher;

· Capacity to work outside in all weather conditions;

· A willingness to work with a good mind and positive effort.
